Prohibited & Restricted Tasks

Got U connects neighbors for everyday help. This policy explains what you can post, what needs extra qualifications, and what is never allowed. It applies to Requesters and Helpers, and every task posting is screened against it.

Work requiring a licence, permit, certification, or professional qualification under applicable law may only be performed when Got U supports and verifies the required qualification. Licensing rules differ by state and jurisdiction — where we cannot reliably tell, the task is placed under review rather than approved.

Task Policy v1.1

Generally allowed

Normal everyday tasks that don't require specialized licensing, unusual safety precautions, or additional Got U verification. Got U category rules and Helper eligibility rules still apply.

  • General errands and pickups of ordinary lawful goods
  • Basic furniture assembly
  • Moving boxes, household items, and normal furniture
  • Light household help and organizing
  • Cleaning
  • Basic tech help — devices, TVs, Wi-Fi, printers
  • Basic non-regulated handyman-type assistance

Restricted — requires additional qualifications

These tasks are not automatically prohibited, but they may only be performed when the applicable Got U requirement is satisfied. Describing a task differently does not remove its requirements.

Transport and hauling

Driving, hauling, and delivery tasks must be posted in the Transport category. Only Helpers who meet Got U's existing Transport requirements — verified driver's licence, verified vehicle insurance and driver coverage, and current vehicle details — can accept them. Transport access is suspended automatically when a document expires.

Usually fine

  • • Hauling boxes or furniture between two addresses
  • • Store pickup and drop-off
  • • Dump or donation runs

Not matched to a Helper

  • • Transporting a person as a rideshare or medical transport service
  • • Hauling by a Helper whose licence or insurance is not verified

Heavy lifting and moving

Ordinary lifting is a normal Got U task. Unusually heavy, dangerous, or specialized lifting is not, and we may ask for more detail — the heaviest item, how many large items, stairs, and how many Helpers you need — before the task can be posted.

Usually fine

  • • Boxes and household items
  • • Normal furniture
  • • Everyday moving assistance

Not matched to a Helper

  • • Safes, commercial machinery, or extremely heavy objects
  • • Anything needing a crane, hoist, rigging, or specialized equipment
  • • Work that presents an unreasonable risk of injury
  • • Items that require professional movers

Electrical work

Got U does not verify electrical licences, so Got U Helpers are never presented as licensed electricians. Minor tasks that are lawful without a licence or permit may be allowed. If the work legally requires a licensed electrician or a permit, it cannot be posted on Got U at all — a Helper claiming to hold a licence does not change that.

Usually fine

  • • Replacing a standard light bulb
  • • Replacing a plug-in fixture or lamp
  • • Changing batteries in a smoke detector
  • • Plugging in and setting up equipment

Not matched to a Helper

  • • Electrical panel or breaker-box work
  • • New circuits or service upgrades
  • • Permanent rewiring or high-voltage work
  • • Any work requiring a permit or a licensed electrician

Plumbing

The same principle applies. Minor, non-regulated assistance may be permitted where lawful. Work that legally requires a licensed plumber or a permit — including gas lines, sewer systems, and major supply or drain alterations — cannot be posted on Got U.

Usually fine

  • • Replacing a shower head or faucet aerator
  • • Clearing a simple sink clog with a plunger or hand snake

Not matched to a Helper

  • • Gas lines
  • • Sewer work
  • • Major supply or drain alterations
  • • Water-heater installation where licensing is required
  • • Any permit-required plumbing

HVAC, gas, roofing, structural, and other licensed trades

Minor, non-regulated maintenance may be allowed. If applicable law requires a permit, professional licence, certification, or other trade credential for the work, the task is not allowed on Got U — regardless of whether a Helper claims to have the licence or the experience. Got U is not currently operating as a marketplace for licensed trade contracting. If we cannot reliably determine whether licensing applies, we hold the task for review instead of guessing.

Usually fine

  • • Replacing an HVAC air filter
  • • Cleaning accessible vents or a dryer duct opening
  • • Basic non-regulated household maintenance

Not matched to a Helper

  • • HVAC or furnace installation and repair
  • • Gas appliance fitting
  • • Roof replacement or repair
  • • Structural or load-bearing work
  • • Security-system installation and wiring

Not allowed on Got U

These tasks cannot be posted or performed through Got U. Vague or indirect wording does not make them permitted, and attempting to work around this policy may result in account restrictions.

Work requiring a licence, certification, or permit

If a task requires a permit, professional licence, certification, or other legally required trade credential, it is not allowed on Got U. Permit required = prohibited. Legally required professional licence or certification = prohibited. This applies even if a Helper says they have the licence or the experience, because Got U does not currently verify trade credentials and is not operating as a marketplace for licensed trade contracting. If Got U later supports verified licensed professionals, it will be a separate program with its own credential verification, insurance, and compliance framework.

  • Electrical panel work, new circuits, permanent rewiring, service upgrades
  • Major plumbing alterations, gas-line work, sewer-system work
  • HVAC installation or replacement requiring licensing
  • Structural modifications and load-bearing work
  • Permit-required roofing or construction
  • Any other regulated trade work requiring professional credentials

Illegal activity

Any task whose purpose or performance violates applicable law.

  • Theft
  • Trespassing
  • Fraud or forgery
  • Identity theft
  • Evading law enforcement
  • Obtaining goods through deception
  • Assisting in illegal activity

Weapons and dangerous items

Tasks involving illegal or dangerous weapons, explosives, or similar hazardous items. Vague wording does not change this rule.

  • Buying, transporting, or handling firearms or ammunition as the task
  • Explosives or fireworks in bulk
  • Illegal weapons of any kind

Controlled substances and illegal drugs

Purchasing, transporting, delivering, selling, obtaining, or manufacturing illegal drugs or controlled substances.

  • Picking up or dropping off illegal drugs
  • Obtaining prescription medication for someone else inappropriately

Alcohol and age-restricted goods

Got U does not currently support purchasing or delivering age-restricted products. We may create a specific compliant program for this later.

  • Alcohol runs
  • Tobacco, vape, or nicotine products
  • Cannabis or dispensary pickups

Adult or sexual services

Any task whose primary purpose is sexual activity or adult content.

  • Sexual or escort services
  • Prostitution
  • Adult-content participation
  • Nude or sexual photography involving a Helper

Fraud and financial activity

Tasks that move money, credentials, or identity in ways that carry fraud risk.

  • Money laundering
  • Cashing checks for another person
  • Bank-account access or moving money between accounts for strangers
  • Gift-card schemes
  • Cryptocurrency transfers on behalf of another user
  • Creating fake accounts, fake reviews, or fraudulent documents
  • Impersonation
  • Circumventing financial controls

Off-platform payment

Got U tasks must be paid through Got U. Payment protection, records, and dispute resolution only exist for payments made in the app.

  • "I'll pay you cash instead"
  • Venmo, Zelle, or Cash App arrangements for a Got U task
  • Posting a lower amount and paying the balance outside Got U

Dangerous or hazardous work

Work with an unreasonable risk of serious injury, death, environmental harm, or major property damage that Got U is not designed to support.

  • Handling hazardous chemicals
  • Asbestos removal
  • Biohazard or crime-scene cleanup
  • Unprotected work at height
  • Dangerous confined spaces
  • Explosives
  • Serious industrial work
  • Anything requiring unverified safety certifications

Abuse, harassment, and criminal conduct

Any request designed to harm, frighten, or control another person.

  • Harassment, stalking, or threats
  • Intimidation or discrimination
  • Revenge tasks
  • Surveillance or tracking another person without lawful authorization
  • Breaking into property
  • Damaging another person's property

Childcare and supervision of minors

Got U does not support childcare at launch. This will only change if and when Got U builds the required screening, insurance, verification, and legal safeguards. Ordinary tasks in a home where children are present are still fine — a Helper is simply never responsible for a child.

  • Babysitting
  • Unsupervised childcare
  • Picking up or transporting children as a childcare service
  • Overnight child supervision

Elder care and dependent adult care

Got U Helpers do not provide professional or unsupervised caregiving. Ordinary errands or household assistance for an adult are still permitted when they are not caregiving or medical services.

  • Personal caregiving, bathing, or toileting
  • Medication administration
  • Medical monitoring
  • Lifting or transferring a dependent person
  • Unsupervised care of a vulnerable adult

Medical and health services

Got U Helpers are not healthcare professionals and are never presented as such.

  • Medical diagnosis or treatment
  • Medication administration or injections
  • Wound care or medical procedures
  • Professional nursing services
  • Inappropriate prescription handling
  • Any activity requiring a licensed healthcare professional

How Got U applies this policy

  • • Every posting is screened server-side against this policy — the title, description, and category.
  • • Clearly prohibited tasks are refused and cannot be posted.
  • • Tasks that may be restricted or are unclear are explained to you, may require more detail or the correct category, and are recorded for Got U review. We do not penalize you for an honest, unclear description.
  • • Before publishing, you confirm the task is lawful, safe, and permitted under this policy. That confirmation does not replace our own review.

If a task feels unsafe or unlawful

Helpers can report a task as Prohibited or Unsafe from the task screen — for illegal activity, unsafe conditions, work that differs materially from the posting, licensed professional work, weapons, drugs or restricted items, harassment, or any other prohibited activity.

You are never required to perform a task you believe is unsafe or unlawful, and reporting one never counts against your reliability standing. See the Helper Reliability Policy.

If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first.
